Homemade festive decorations with your dog

Come December, your calendar quickly fills up with different social events and activities. No wonder it is called silly season! Include your furry baby in some creative fun while making a lovely memory as well. In the following tutorial, we will show you how to make a special paw-print ornament out of salt dough. You most likely have all the ingredients in your pantry already.

Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1/2 cup water
To decorate
- Paint (for example acrylic) in festive colours: green, red, gold and white.
- Paintbrush
- Varnish *optional
- Ribbon
Method
- To make the salt dough, mix the salt, flour and water in a bowl until it becomes a dough. You may want to knead the dough to ensure there are no lumps.
- Roll the dough out to about 2cm thick, and cut out individual circles with a glass or cookie cutter that is slightly larger than your dog’s paw.
- Put baking paper on a baking tray and place the salt dough rounds on the baking paper.
- Press your dog’s paw into the salt dough, and make a hole in the top with the back of the paintbrush.
- Place the paw-prints in the oven and bake at 100 degrees for about 2-3 hours until they are completely dry.
- When the salt dough has cooled completely, you can decorate them with paint and varnish if desired. Tie a pretty ribbon on the ornaments and they are ready to hang on your Christmas tree.
