    We use the larvae from The Black Soldier fly (Hermetia Illucens) – a great source of important amino acids (the building blocks of protein) that the body needs for growth and maintenance. In addition, they contain essential fatty acids (especially lauric acid, which you also find in coconut oil) and minerals.

    Our insects eat clean, traceable plant waste from microbreweries in Cape Town. 1 kg Nala Health insect protein diverts 5 kg of food from the landfill by using the spent grains from the breweries.

    Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL), is a complete protein that is kinder on the planet’s resources. It offers your dog all the 10 amino acids they need as well as:

    • More zinc and iron than lean meat
    • More calcium than milk
    • Good fatty acids
    • Fibre which is important for gut health

    The equivalent of twice the size of the UK is used to farm meat for cat and dog food every year. In addition to emitting less CO2, BSFL needs less land, water and other resources than traditional meat production making them more sustainable.

    Our BSFL are locally produced without growth hormones, antibiotics and no GMO.

    Edible insects are farmed – and will not put any strain on wild insects. The Black soldier fly is also not a pollinator.

    We have taste-tested our food on over 60 dogs who all agree that it is scrumptious. We have also not added any artificial flavour or colour to our dog food.

    We offer 4 products:

    • Puppy food, which is also suitable for pregnant dogs
    • Adult small breed
    • Adult medium to large breed
    • Senior and Lite all breed

    Our senior and lite food is perfect for dogs who are overweight or need a diet with a lower protein and fat content. All of our food ranges are suitable for dogs with allergies as they contain novel protein, no gluten and no dairy. Always consult with your vet if you consider changing your dog’s food. If you are unsure about which product best suits your dog, please contact us at support@nalahealth.dog for guidance.

    Healthy poops are brown, log-shaped, slightly firm and sized proportionately to the amount of food your dog ate. It should be easy to pick up without much residue on the ground. Most dogs need less food on Nala Health dog food as it is more nutritionally dense compared to food containing soy, wheat, maize and other fillers.

    Their poop may also be bulked up by the good fibre in Nala Health, which we add for digestive health. Healthy fibre feeds the good bacteria in the gut.

    Remember to transition your dog to any new food over a period of 7 days to avoid stomach upset. If your dog is experiencing diarrhoea then the transition may have been too quick.

    When ever you change your dog’s food it can cause a stomach upset as their digestive system is adapted to the diet they’re used to eating. We, therefore, recommend transitioning over to new food slowly over 7 days.

For those subscribing to our dog food plans, an account will be automatically set up upon completion of your purchase.

    Following account creation, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing a link to set up your password, using your email address as your username.

    You can pick up your order from our warehouse, Inospace, Cape Town. If you wish to do so, please get in touch with us before placing the order so we can inform our warehouse not to ship. 

    Inospace is located on 22 Cumberland Rd, Paarden Eiland (secure parking). The warehouse is upstairs:

    • at the top of the staircase walk right to the end of the passage.
    • ⁠turn right and walk outside across the loading area and enter the building on the other. side
    • once inside you will see signage to the warehouse 50m down the hall and on your left.
    • Present your order number to collect your order.

    2. On the new page, click “Change Payment Method.”
    3. You will be redirected to Payfast, where you can enter your new card details.
    4. Approve the new card with an OTP sent by your bank to your banking app or via SMS.

    If you have multiple subscriptions, you will need to update your card details for each one individually.

    The 3D authentication process is managed by your bank, so we cannot fix this issue directly. However, if you encounter a “3D Authentication failed” error even after entering your card details and 3DS security requirements correctly, there are a couple of steps you can try:

    • Ensure a stable internet connection and that your browser is up-to-date.
    • Disable any browser extensions, such as pop-up blockers, which may interfere with the 3D secure page.
    • If the above doesn’t help, try completing the payment using a different browser.
    • Contact your bank to get further assistance.

    Our food is produced in an EU-approved facility in South Africa. The EU regulations are the strictest globally.

    Our insect protein comes from a state-of-the-art farm in Cape Town, and the food itself is produced in an EU-approved facility, Mossel Bay. The reason for our bags being in Norwegian is because we had originally planned to launch sales in Norway before South Africa (we are a Norwegian family living in South Africa). Due to the delays in logistics brought about by COVID, we changed our plans to have our first launch in the South African market. We plan to have English bags in the not-too-distant future.
