This gluten-free dog biscuit recipe is the perfect allergy-friendly treat for your best friend. Most dogs can digest gluten just fine but some dogs suffer from gluten intolerance or allergy. A gluten intolerant dog will show symptoms like intestinal upset and even hair loss.
There is something so gratifying about baking nutritious and tasty treats for those you love. This delicious recipe combines spinach, squash and carrot in a biscuit that is easy to take on walks or keep handy in the cookie jar when doggo is being extra good. What makes these dog biscuits healthy?
- Spinach: Full of good vitamins and minerals (including vitamins A, C, E, Calcium, iron and potassium) and protein.
- Carrot: Contains beta carotene which is beneficial for vision.
- Zucchini: Contains a lot of fibre that is good for digestion.
- Banana: Contains potassium which can help reduce high blood pressure.
- Flaxseed: A good source of fibre, phytochemicals and vegetable omega-3 fatty acids.
- Oats: A gluten-free alternative that contains B vitamins – good for skin and fur.
Dog biscuit ingredients
- 3 cups oatmeal
- 1 carrot
- 1/2 squash
- 1 handful of spinach
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons flaxseed
- 1 banana (most)
- 2 eggs
Directions
- Set the oven to 180 degrees and place baking paper on a baking tray.
- Measure 3 cups of oat flour. Tip: You can make your own oat flour by using a blender. Put the oats in the blender and mix until you get a fine flour (about 1 minute). Put the oatmeal in a large bowl.
- Grate the carrot and zucchini.
- Roughly chop the spinach and put all the vegetables in the bowl together with the oat flour.
- Add a large tablespoon of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of flaxseed.
- Mash a medium/large banana with a fork and put it in the bowl with the flour and
- the vegetables.
- Add 2 eggs to the mix and stir everything into a firm dough. Knead it lightly to make sure everything is mixed well and the dough is dry enough. Add more oat flour if needed.
- Sprinkle some oatmeal on the kitchen counter and roll out the dough to a thickness of about ½ cm.
- Cut out biscuits in the shape you want. We made hearts and stars.
